Bonnie the staff puppy, submitted by Charlotte and Alice
There are many pieces of equipment that need to be purchased in order to successfully raise an obedient, healthy dog. Some of the items listed in this article won’t be completely necessary, but some will probably be required by you in order to effectively train your dog to a good standard.
Necessary pieces of dog equipment would include: dog collar with tags. The dog collar is required so that a leash can be attached so the dog is under control. The collar also helps to teach the dog to become domestic, and after a few hours the dog should feel comfortable and unaware that it is wearing its collar. The tags are required because you will people to be able to identify your details if the dog gets lost; write your phone number on the tag so people have someone to contact if they find your dog. Try and avoid writing the dog’s name on the tags as if someone was to steal your dog they would probably be able to control it by calling its name etc.
As mentioned briefly above, another essential piece of dog equipment is a leash. This is so that the dog can be kept under control at all times, like when it is being taken for a walk outside. A short lead should be used for most circumstances, when the dog is being walked outside then an extendable lead may also be suitable.

Dog food containers or bowls will be a requirement for all dog owners. Obviously they are needed so that the dog can be easily fed and water is available for the dog to drink. Dog food will be another essential purchase so make sure you have plenty of this available.
Some dog toys will probably be a good investment for your dog and will help to raise an obedient well trained dog, as long as the dog isn’t spoiled with too many toys to play with.
Grooming equipment such as a dog brush will be another recommended piece of dog equipment as it allows you to keep your dog looking tidy and clean, even if you do take it to hair-dressers. If you will be cutting the dogs hair yourself then it would make sense to buy a set of scissors etc so you can easily trim the dog.
If you worry that your dog is sometimes too violent and tends to snap its mouth a lot, a muzzle will probably be a necessary investment (on the advice of your local Vet). This will help teach the dog to stop biting and will help protect other dogs and people too.
Though most of the pieces of dog equipment listed above aren’t completely necessary, there are some pieces that every dog owner must have if they have any hope of raising and training their own healthy and loveable dog.
