Dog Care

Health

It is important to examine and check that your dog is behaving normally, and looks healthy physically. If you notice any problems which persist and don’t go away, it would be worth taking the dog to a vet for a closer examination by an expert. There are many illnesses and diseases that it is possible for dogs to catch even when being adequately cared for. Often these diseases can be picked up from other animals, and so it’s important to regularly check your dog.

When receiving a dog you must check that it has had all the necessary injections and vaccinations against disease. You should check that it has been immunised before letting it outside, as it may catch any kinds of diseases if not. You must be especially careful not to let it mix with other dogs if you are unsure about the history of its immunisations.

Ticks and fleas are both nuisances when it comes to dogs, they love to attach themselves to the fur of the dog, usually when they are out walking amongst ferns and other types of plant life.

Foxes mange is another disease which can be caught by dogs, and causes irritation to the skin. It is caught when a dog encounters something which an infected fox might have rubbed up against, and so the disease can easily be spread amongst other dogs. Parasites will bury themselves beneath the skin of the dog, and it will cause the dog to itch regularly. Hair loss can be caused be the excessive scratching, but thankfully if medicine is taken the dog should recover fully from the illness. Again, it is important to take your dog to the vets if you suspect something may be wrong.

There are many more diseases and illnesses that dogs can catch, but if you notice any abnormal behaviour that persists with your dog it is best to be safe then sorry, and take it to a local vets to get it checked out.
